Emma Whiteley

Since winning the BBC Young Chorister Of The Year title in Westminster Abbey in October 2006, Emma Whiteley, 17, has enjoyed an action-packed career. She has sung a duet with Jose Carreras in the Royal Albert Hall, and also performed alongside singers Natasha Marsh and Alfie Boe and people from the world of entertainment such as Sir George Martin, Jean Alexander, Jane Asher, Aled Jones, Patricia Routledge and Bernard Cribbins. She has made regular appearances as a soloist on BBC Radio 2 and Radio 4, and has also performed and recorded in the Blackpool Tower Ballroom and Wesley’s Chapel in London. Emma featured on BBC1’s Songs Of Praise programme in a celebration of Ken Dodd’s 80 th birthday, and again on Songs Of Praise from St. Wilfrid’s Church, Harrogate. She was the guest soloist in the Voices For Hospices Music Through The Ages concert at the Harrogate International Centre, where she has appeared regularly as a soloist over the years. Other solo engagements recently have included Vivaldi’s Gloria with Schola Portas and Handel’s Messiah with the choir of St. Robert’s Church, Pannal, near Harrogate, where she sings every Sunday. However the highlight of her career to date has been the re-opening of the Royal Hall in Harrogate, where Emma was chosen to perform for many distinguished guests of honour, not least HRH Prince Charles. Emma is currently in demand locally as a soloist at concerts, informal gatherings and weddings. She is a founder-member of the award-winning youth choir Verse And Chorus. She has been having lessons with David Darling for six years, and her ambition now is to become a professional singer. Her debut solo CD album, Believe, has just been released. Emma’s other great love is acting, and she also plays piano. She goes to school at Harrogate Ladies College, where she is just beginning to study for her A levels.
